Getting to Central London

  • By air:
    • From London Heathrow airport, take the Piccadilly underground line to central London. The journey is about 40 minutes and costs GBP 3.80. If you are staying at the London County Hall Travel Inn, change at Hammersmith across the platform to the District line, and get off at Westminster. County Hall is then a little over 5 minutes' walk across the River Thames via Westminster Bridge. Local map
    • From London Gatwick airport, take the Gatwick express train to London Victoria. The journey is about 30 minutes and costs GBP 12.00. If you are staying at the London County Hall Travel Inn, take the District underground line eastbound to Westminster (fare is GBP 2.00). County Hall is then a little over 5 minutes' walk across the River Thames via Westminster Bridge. Local map
    • From London Stansted airport, take the Stansted express train to London Liverpool Street. The journey is about 45 minutes and costs GBP 13.80 single, GBP 24 return. If you are staying at the London County Hall Travel Inn, take the Circle underground line clockwise to Westminster (fare is GBP 2.00). County Hall is then a little over 5 minutes' walk across the River Thames via Westminster Bridge. Local map
    • From London Luton airport, take the free shuttle bus to Luton Airport Parkway station, and take a Thameslink train to Blackfriars station in central London. The journey is about 45 minutes and costs about GBP 10.40. If you are staying at the London County Hall Travel Inn, take the District/Circle underground line westbound to Westminster (fare is GBP 2.00). County Hall is then a little over 5 minutes' walk across the River Thames via Westminster Bridge. Local map
  • By Eurostar rail: The train arrives at London Waterloo. From there it is 5 minutes' walk to the London County Hall Travel Inn. Local map

District Line: please note that the District Line of the underground will not be running between Whitechapel and Earl's Court (including Westminster station serving the conference hotel) on Saturday 4 and Sunday 5 September, due to engineering works. Westminster station will still be served by the Jubilee Line, and Waterloo station is equally close.

Getting to the conference venue

The main conference and all the workshops are held at the Royal Society.

  • Here is a plan (not to scale) showing the route from the recommended hotel at County Hall by way of Westminster Bridge, Parliament Square and St James' Park (see photographs) to the conference venue:
