Title:

A practical software defined radio for consumer products

Abstract:

This presentation will investigate a practical software defined radio as used in consumer products today and give the audience an appreciation of its architecture and programming model, the design trade-offs made that led to that architecture, and why such an approach is expected to become the norm over the next decade.

David Knox is Ensigma's Director of Software Technology. He graduated from Cambridge University in 1973 with a degree in Natural Sciences and has susequently gained has over 30 years experience in the embedded software industry: starting with microprocessor control of laboratory instruments using Intel 4004 processors and moving on through a variety of instrument control, real-time data processing and end-user application fields. He was a director of Ensigma Ltd., where he designed the DSP-based COFDM generator used in the BBC's network of DAB transmitters. Since that company merged with Imagination Technologies, he has worked on RTOS support and high performance DSP software for Imagination's IP products. His current focus is on software frameworks and toolkits to support the Ensigma brand of wireless Intellectual Property offerings.
