Title: Google Maps
Abstract:

The talk will touch on some of the technologies that are powering Google Maps and that are more generally in use at Google. Using the example of map-tiles drawing and serving, we'll explore some challenges associated with massive parallel computing, and how Google deals with them to process and serve large amounts of data.

Fabrice Caillette obtained his PhD in Computer Science from the University of Manchester in 2006. For the past four years, he's been working as a software engineer in the Zurich offices of Google, and manages a team working on Google Maps.
