Title: The future of banking technology in an uncertain world
Abstract:

Our speakers will be sharing their thoughts the causes and effects of the boom and bust, and on what they see as the opportunities for IT in the banking sector during the downturn and beyond

Speaker Details: Halldor Fossa and Malcolm Melville
 

Dr. Halldor Fossa MEng PhD ACGI DIC graduated for the second time from Imperial in 1997 to embark on a technology career in the City. After spells at Reuters and ABN Amro, he is now an Architect in High Performance Computing (HPC) in the RBS Global Banking and Markets division, designing applications to harness the power of the global Enterprise Grid for large-volume computations. He has been a hands-on C++ developer, and team-lead, and now project-manages and facilitates multi-disciplinary teams across several technology and business functions.

Malcolm Melville has 25 years of experience in software system architecture and design. In the years following graduation from Imperial Malcolm worked on large-scale network designs and distributed systems for suppliers to the finance sector including many years at Reuters. He has also worked for Telekurs and Digital Equipment Corporation and has expertise in the architecture and design of high availability systems that process market data and transactions.

For the last ten years, Malcolm has worked for investment banks and hedge funds designing and implementing a diverse range of systems including Credit Risk and Trading systems for a wide range of products including Fixed Income, Derivatives and Foreign Exchange. Whilst at RBS, Malcolm has worked as a member of the highly acclaimed Centralised Pricing team pricing Inflation Linked Bonds and Swaps, and Money Market products. Most recently Malcolm has reapplied his detailed knowledge of FX Spot trading to the development of the algorithmic trading systems.
