Title:

High Performance Media Processing for Video Telephony

Abstract:

At MX Telecom we've set out to build the most powerful video and voice telephony platform in the world on which to run interactive voice and video applications for customers such as the BBC and Endemol (Big Brother). It's been a fun mission, and along the way we've encountered some interesting software design challenges whilst getting maximum performance when manipulating VOIP calls. This talk will introduce some of the issues we encountered whilst writing mxmedia, our media processing framework, and how we solved them. Some basic familiarity with concurrency and threading is assumed.

Speaker Details: Matthew Hodgson - Media & Systems Project Manager

Matthew joined MX Telecom 7 years ago as the fifth member of the technical team, after a misspent undergraduate career littered with Silicon Graphics workstations, video projectors, and a small datacentre hidden in the basement of his student house. Nowadays he oversees the teams responsible for MX Telecom's Telephony and Media development, and the company's production infrastructure and software environment. He dreams that one day cyberspace will be composited using mxmedia.
