Title: | Open Source Hacking for Fun and Profit |
---|---|
Abstract: | ARM Holdings is the world's leading semiconductor intellectual property (IP) supplier and as such is at the heart of the development of digital electronic products. Based in Cambridge, UK and employing nearly 2000 people worldwide, ARM processor technology is prominent in areas ranging from deeply embedded microcontrollers to the latest smartphones and tablet PCs. To date, over 20 billion ARM processors have shipped worldwide and demand continues to increase. The ARM ecosystem is supported by both proprietary and open-source software stacks, the latter becoming increasingly important for high-end mobile processors. This talk describes the work of the new Processor Division Software team at ARM and focuses on the open-source community surrounding the Linux Kernel. |
Speaker Details: | Will Deacon Will is a recent graduate (2009) of the MEng programme in DoC and has worked full-time at ARM for 18 months as a Software Engineer on the Linux Kernel. He particularly enjoys working 'close to the metal' as well as being part of the open-source community at conferences and on mailing lists. |
