Applications of Computing in Industry : Lecture

Cloud computing means many different things to many people. Whether you consider it hype or reality . it is clear that there are compelling attributes of the various cloud options. Flexibility, agility, responsiveness and consumption-based pricing across a range of tiered service offerings closely align with those benefits that all CTOs and CIOs seek in these demanding times. However, with these benefits, come new challenges around security, regulatory pressures, control, governance, service-level management and many others. Stuart Hasking is a Managing Director at Deutsche Bank, and is the Chief Technology Officer responsible for IT Infrastructure Architecture and Engineering. In this presentation, Stuart will broadly outline Deutsche Bank.s approach to Cloud Computing within the bank.s overall IT infrastructure strategy. The focus will be on the various stages of the journey from the Data Center to the Cloud.

Stuart Hasking has over twenty five years experience in the IT industry. Training as a Mechanical Engineer, Stuart's initial involvement with IT was in the use of CAD/CAM systems in the defence and aerospace industry. Subsequently, Stuart moved to Digital Equipment Ltd, where he held a number of senior support and engineering positions. Since 1987, Stuart has been employed in the Financial IT Services industry, holding various IT infrastructure technical support, consultancy and engineering positions at Bankers Trust, Siemens Business Services and Deutsche Bank.

Stuart is currently responsible for leading the Architecture and Engineering function within Deutsche Bank's Global Technology Information Enterprise Services Division. His team is globally responsible for the research, selection, development, integration, testing, certification and deployment of Deutsche Bank's IT infrastructure. The team sets IT Architecture standards, driving and governing innovation, standardisation and complexity reduction through the Bank's "Technology Roadmap".

Stuart holds a BSc(Hons) in Mechanical Engineering from Brunel University.
