Title: Technical and Production challenges in making the game Split/Second
Abstract:

Split/Second is Black Rock's critically acclaimed racing game released this year on Xbox360, PS3 and PC. This talk will describe some of the technical and production challenges that we encountered in its 3 year development cycle, and how we tackled them. We will also describe in detail some of the graphics techniques we used to give the game its distinctive Hollywood blockbuster look.

Mark is the Lead Infrastructure Programmer at Black Rock Studio, based in Brighton. Mark is a games industry veteran of 12 years experience and an Imperial College alumnus, having completed MEng Computing in 1998 with first class honors. He has worked for many games companies in a variety of roles, often concentrating on tools and infrastructure. He has contributed to four published games on different console systems and has written a regular column on programming issues for Develop Magazine.

Jeremy Moore is a lead programmer at Black Rock Studio in Brighton, UK. He has been working in the games industry for over a decade. At Black Rock he has worked on core engine, network and graphics systems for a number of games including ATV Offroad Fury, Pure and Split/Second. He's spoken at Siggraph, and had an article published in the recently published book Game Engine Gems.
