Title: Interacting with a Virtual Creature: Experiments with Kinect and Artificial Reality
Abstract:

In 2011, a small team of programmers at Lionhead Studios worked on an R&D project exploring Kinect and Artificial Reality. The aim was to develop a believable mixed-reality 'virtual pet' experience. They used AR tags to place a virtual creature in the world, and Kinect to allow the user to interact with it. This talk describes what they learnt from the experience and the technical hurdles which had to be overcome.
