Title: Computing at Scale: An Insight into Grid Technology at Morgan Stanley
Abstract:

Together we'll build a simulation of student loans and find their value. Such tasks can be computationally intensive so we'll see how we go from an example running locally in a single machine to executing it across a grid of machines using an internal framework built at Morgan Stanley to distribute the work. Ruben Badaro, a software engineer responsible for grid infrastructure in Morgan Stanley Credit team, will lead this session. The Scala programming language will be used for this presentation but no previous experience with the language is required

Speaker Details: Ruben Badaro

Ruben Badaro works for the Credit Fixed Income team at Morgan Stanley focusing on using large grids of machines process complex calculations faster and more efficiently. Prior to Morgan Stanley he worked in Cash Equities at UBS with distributed caches and low-latency systems, built recommender systems for the largest telecommunications companies in the world, and did consulting in a number of different industry sectors and a variety of technologies. He was also one of the founders of the Portuguese Java User Group (PT.JUG) and holds a degree in Computer Science from Lisbon University.
