Title: The Science of Learning
Abstract:

How do we learn? Can we design a system to find out how we learn and the importance of motivation? Founder of Sparx, Glenn Woodcock describes how they have developed a system to test this uncharted territory, using games and motivations.

Speaker Details: Glenn Woodcock

With a background in mathematics and science, Glenn Woodcock has twenty years of business experience in technology and finance companies.

Glenn did post-graduate research in mathematical biology and has a degree (first class) from Sheffield University in Astrophysics.

He began his commercial life developing software in computer automated machining and inventing compression algorithms for online computer games.

From 2000 to 2008 Glenn was responsible for various aspects of risk systems for the Royal Bank of Scotland, ranging from stress testing, regulatory reporting, Risk InfrastructureControl, Pricing, Basel II and integrated financial reporting. Much of this time was spent focusing on practical implementation of regulation.

In 2008 Glenn founded Andromeda Capital, specialising in investment in renewable energy, financial and risk management technology.

He co-founded Sparx over two years ago to scientifically investigate exactly what it is that makes the best learning experience. By fusing world-class technology and data analysis with educational insight, Sparx is focussed on finding ways to ensure everyone can reach their full potential.
