Title: Software in Sports: Spectating, Strategy & Safety
Abstract:

This talk will take a look at how software applications are changing the sporting world, from the armchair viewer to the elite athlete. As cost and technology barriers come down, combining video, audio and telemetry data is becoming increasingly important to create engaging and insightful user experiences.

Simon graduated from the Department of Computing, Imperial in 1995 and joined a UK based start up that was specialising in digital visual effects for Hollywood blockbusters. The film that put the company on the map was Jurassic Park and since then Simon's been actively involved in the production of blockbusters like Toy Story 3 to epic documentaries such as Planet Earth. At the start of this year he decided to apply that knowledge and experience to a new domain, that of performance analysis for elite sports professionals.
