Joint Imperial and Edinburgh project on Automated Mathematics reported in New Scientist
The work of Dr Simon Colton and the newly formed "Computational Creativity Group" has been reported in a New Scientist article called the "Rise of the Robogeeks". The article focuses on the work of Aaron Sloman who holds the view that machines could be programmed to be just as good if not better than humans at mathematics. Work by Simon in developing HR (a piece of software capable of performing automated theory formation) and his group's work with Edinburgh University on the "Wheelbarrow Project" are both credited as offering real evidence that this theory is possible.
The main focus of Simon's group is on computational creativity in both the arts and sciences and in particular in pure mathematics, bioinformatics, graphic design, video games and the visual arts.
