The help Index can be found in the panel on the left side of the help window. If it is not displayed you can show it by clicking on the Index tab at the top of the panel.
The Index itself is simply a list of all the help pages shown in alphabetical order with a lookup edit box above the list that can be used to go straight to a title in the index.

To display a page listed in the index click on its name to select it and the main viewing area will then display the selected page.

Using the lookup field

You can use the lookup field at the top of the Index panel to go straight to a page's title in the index. To do this click inside the field and type in the first few letters of the title of the page you are looking for. As each letter is typed the index is updated to display the pages that match the letters you have entered. If no match is found in the index for what you typed no items will be selected in the index.
