Visual Theory Group
Group leader: Peter Cornwell

The Department of Computing's Visual Theory Group is headed by Peter Cornwell and aims to build up collaborations between Computer Scientists and Artists to explore issues relating to the Human Computer Interface from both perspectives. In particular the Group is concerned with visual human computer interface design and its relationship with other sense data, such as spatial audio.

Peter Cornwell has a long and interesting history of association with the Department. He has been Director of Research for Texas Instruments, a Director of Meiko and CEO for Division US, a company that was responsible for many pioneering developments and applications in Virtual Reality. Peter first established a collaboration with John Darlington in the late 80's when he was with Meiko. This resulted in Meiko setting up a London office within the College. Later Peter and John worked together on the formation of the late-lamented London Parallel Applications Centre and Peter supported several collaborations with the Department when he was with Division, including early experiments in 3-D audio.
