Introduction
One of the typical aspects of a ubiquitous computing environment is a distributed sensor web that allows a lot of information about the local environment to be collected and acted upon in a way that (hopefully) benefits the user.
Sensor Devices
Environmental Devices
As well as sensors which collect information about an environment, there is also a need for devices that augment the environment for the benefit of these sensors. By isolating functions which are hard, such as (physical) location detection for example, in separate devices which transmit this information in an easy to decode form the cost and complexity of the other devices in the environment can be reduced.
Cheap infra-red beacon
A simple design for an infra-red beacon which transmits a fixed location code and so allows other devices near it to know where they are.
