Beastie One/OnePlus

Beastie One
Beastie One

The Beastie One is based around an Atmel ATmega8L microcontroller and a Radiometrix NiM2 433MHz ISM band radio module.

Summary

Processor

  • 8k bytes Flash program memory.
  • 1k byte SRAM.
  • 512 bytes EEPROM.
  • Clock speed 4MHz, giving approx. 4 MIPS. Can be upgraded to 8MHz by changing a processor setting at the expense of increased battery usage.

Radio

  • FM radio at 434.65MHz.
  • 10kbps maximum data rate (run at 5kbps as standard).
  • Maximum range 500m.

Beastie OnePlus

The Beastie OnePlus is the same as a Beastie One with the addition of 32k bytes of non-volatile FRAM (ferroelectric RAM). FRAM is not currently available in the large sizes that flash memory is but it is faster and easier to write to and does not have the same limited (typically 10,000 or 100,000) number of write cycles. This makes it a better choice for memory being used as a circular data cache.
