Apologies for absence: Bob Pullen 3. Minutes of the last meeting were agreed. 4. Matters arising from previous meetings 49.1.2 Student home pages (Appendix B) The enclosed policy proposal was agreed and it was decided to present the statement to the Executive Committee and then Bob Hynds at CCS and the College Information Systems Strategy Committee. It was proposed that the facility would be available from next term. 49.2.2 Smalltalk JNM reported that there would be a need for Smalltalk during the next two years at least. 50.8.1 Sun IPC workstations for PhD students Four machines were allocated immediately. The remainder will be allocated shortly, as soon as students and supervisors have had time to respond to the announcements. First-year students have lower priority than students later in their studies. [ACTION: JIM to deliver machines to PhD students Mark Nuttall, Madhu Bhabuta, Wu Wen, Wing To / Martin Kohler]. [ACTION: MMG to email students and supervisors. PHJK, JIM to allocate remainder]. 52.7.2 1995-96 equipment funds bids PHJK reported that he had emailed all interested parties about the two bids put forward in the last meeting (PC Lab upgrade and FPGA Lab). He invited more bids before the end of March. MSS suggested more graphics machines could be requested. [ACTION: DFG to put in a proposal for graphics equipment]. 5. Chairman's actions Thefts: ca. 1700 pounds has been spent to replace processor and memory chips etc. stolen from the Real Time Lab. 6. Access to all-doc mailing list JIM reported that there had been a number of complaints following a PhD student mailing a joke to the all-doc alias. The committee felt that it was an isolated incident and that PhDs should continue to have the privilege of using such aliases. 7. Equipment requests Fuzz: it has been established that Fuzz is already installed on teaching machines. 7.1 Technical Library Mac (Appendix A) Agreed subject to funds being available. [ACTION: PHJK to check budget balance and report back to the committee]. 8. Date of next meeting is 23 May 1995 at 2pm.
