things that could go on my project page --------------------------------------- * mention _search engine_ approach! "Ask Alta Vista for backlinks" already effectively provides a coarse-grained annotation service; if a decent search engine could list *fine-grained* backlinks (however defined) on demand, a future browser - or a CGI-script or whatever communicating with an existing browser, running at the same site as the browser if desired - could render this information as a page with fine-grained annotation marker images, altered link destinations if necessary, etc. * can _existing_ browsers _become_ annotation-aware, using Java? That is, CritSuite (or a search engine approach as discussed above, or whatever) could supply an austere list of the fine-grained annotations - much cheaper than what it does now - and a Java applet on the client side would render these in the "usual" way: as a page with fine-grained annotation marker images, altered link destinations if necessary, etc. [A CGI-script might be needed as "middleware" to satisfy Java's security restrictions.] * add "XML multi-way links to the rescue?"-type entry! (Though how these are actually going to be _implemented_ is a complete mystery to me!) * add "Web annotation projects in progress" site (I can't remember its URL, but I found it listed in the coarse-grained annotations box at the bottom of the CritSuite home page) to my project page! [+ are any other sites *that* site leads to worth adding?] * maybe add the sort-of-related site http://www.links2go.com/? (recommended by Lloyd as vaguely similar in spirit to Crit.) CritSuite --------- * -> Ping: it's impossible to stop monitoring a page that's redirected to another, like my home page with the final slash missing! (+ which FAQ is which?!)
