Research student travel funds
The Department sets aside funds specifically for the support of research student
travel. Priority is given to students who are presenting papers at international
conferences and workshops.
- Requests for funding should be submitted to the Research
Secretary.
They will be signed off on the 15th of each month, so please account for
this when submitting as urgent . Request form
- The Postgraduate tutor will approve an amount as the upper limit of
expenditure to be covered by DOC in advance
of travel.
- After the trip, the student will fill a form of expenses (available from
the Finance Officer) and submit the receipts, and will be
reimbursed for the
expenses up to the approved amount
Approval must be obtained before
the trip.
In order to allow the department to support as many student trips as
possible, PhD students must
try to minimize costs. Therefore, PhD students are expected to
- make sure they register as students
- use public transport and not taxi, when safe and possible
- investigate the possibility of cheaper flights
- consider more hotels than just the conference hotel
- offer to work as a student volunteer (some conferences pay students to
help with organization )
- share room with others, it this is an option with conference
organization, or if there are more DOC PhD students attending this venue.
.
Please read the full
travel policy before proceeding. This shows alternative funding sources.
