Why should we care about Antarctica? After all, it's about the farthest away place on earth from most of the world's population. Only a handful of scientists live there... there are few natural resources... it's dark half the year... and it's cold!

It's also the last unexplored continent on the planet. Six million square miles that still have plenty of unknown vistas, that still harbor secrets, that still have mysteries to be revealed. There is a lot to learn -- but a great deal to be gained. For the more we educate ourselves about even the most distant places on earth, the more we realize how closely tied together everything really is.

We have compiled a handful of useful resources to introduce you to some of the unique features of Antarctica. We think you'll find our on-going investigation of Antarctica is the stuff of scientific inquiry ... or school-age curiosity.
