Jonathan Chester

Co-Producer, Photographer & Writer

Jonathan Chester is one of the world's leading polar adventurers-- a climber and mountaineer, a filmmaker and explorer, an author and photographer. In the past decade he has visited Antarctica ten times, resulting in numerous books and other media projects. As co-producer of TerraQuest's Virtual Antarctica, he brings his skills and experience to yet another new frontier.

In the course of his career as an explorer, Jonathan has logged several major ascents, including Mount Cook in New Zealand, El Capitan in Yosemite National Park, Broad Peak in the Karakoram, and Mt. McKinley in Alaska. He was also on the first team to reach the summit of Mount Minto, the highest peak in Antarctica's North Victoria Land-- an expedition covered in The Loneliest Mountain, which he photographed as co-author with Lincoln Hall.

His photography is marketed under the trade name "Extreme Images", and his work has been exhibited internationally. The leap from still photography to film has been made twice, as a consultant on Antarctica, the first IMAX film made in the far south, and as writer and producer of the television documentary The Last Husky for National Geographic Explorer.

Jonathan Chester is a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society, and works as a naturalist and historian on polar tourist cruises. He has been lecturing on adventure in the Antarctic, the Himalaya, and photography for over 15 years. He lives in Berkeley with his wife Kirsty Melville.
