Written by Wan Ling LiPerformance - the capabilities of a machine Conclusions In this article we have examined a variety of methods in conducting performance evaluation of a system. The methods described have been as general as possible to allow them to be used in a wide range of applications. Examples have been liberally given to show how to best use the techniques as described. It is hoped that the reader will now have a better understanding to the role and application of performance evaluation.
Bibliography
Introduction to Queueing Networks, E.Gelenbe, G.Pujolle Stochastic Models of Manufacturing Systems, John A Buzacott, George Shanthikumar Usefulness: 6 Readability: 5 Other Comments: Designed for mainly for post-graduates and specialist level. A strong knowledge of Statistics is require to appreciate fully the book. The Single Server Queue, J. W. Cohen Usefulness: 6 Readability: 6 Other Comments: Covers a broad range of single server queues from M/M/1 though to Km/G/1, with different disciples and parameters. Petri Net WWW pages http://www.daimi.aau.dk/~petrinet/ Usefulness: 7 Readability: 8 Other Comments: Home of the Petri Net. Has a good selection of links to other sites and contacts to people in this field of study. MM1 Queues http://www.isor.vuw.ac.nz/~vignaux/teaching/queues/mm1/mm1.html Usefulness: 9 Readability: 8 Other Comments: Covers the M/M/1 queue fairly thoroughly, giving good everyday examples of M/M/1 applications. The link to this site is rather slow though. Discrete-Event System Simulation, Jerry Banks, John S. Carson II, Barry L. Nelson Usefulness: 8 Readability: 9 Other Comments: This is a well laid out book. Has many examples of queueing systems without being bogged down with the associated mathematics. Discrete System Simulation, William G. Bulgen Usefulness: 6 Readability: 8 Other Comments: The emphasis on this book is particularly biased towards GPSS and Simscript. Lightly covers queueing models. A First Look At Perturbation Theory, James G. Simmonds, James E.Mann Usefulness: 5 Readability: 5 Other Comments: Essentially aimed at the mathematician, the main emphasis in the book is to introduce and teach undergraduates Perturbation Theory. Exercises in the book must be done in order to understand the theories.
