Perturbation Analysis of Discrete Event Dynamic Systems (PADEDS)

A model of a system will essentially contain a network of queues with their associated queueing models. In perturbation analysis the parameters within the queueing models are modified and the system is then re-examined to see what effect this has.

In changing the parameters it is possible to then to find out which parts of the system causes a bottleneck. If a bottleneck is found then steps can be taken to reduce its effect on the system. A sensitivity analysis can be used to find out with parts of the system change the output the most. So if in a production plant we wish to increase the productivity of the site, we can undertake a sensitivity analysis and find out the optimum place to spend money on improvements.
