Regular Research Meetings

Informal Seminars for Imperial's Computer Systems Research Community

Thursday afternoons at 3 pm, Room 433 Huxley.

The aims of these meetings are, roughly:

To create an intellectually rich and mutually supportive research group
To make sure we know what each other is doing, and how different activities in the group relate to one another
To make it easier for newcomers to join in, esp. new PhD students
To provide an opportunity for bouncing ideas off each other that is not too big or too formal for asking hard questions
To keep ourselves up to date with current goings-on in related and generally interesting research fields.

Suitable topics for talks might be:

Summaries of current work
Previews of conference talks (this should help improve the eventual talk...)
Talks given which have not been heard by people here but which are of interest
Summaries of interesting papers we have read, meeting reports, etc.
Ideas for grant proposals etc.

The idea is that these meetings will last about 1 hour, so talks should be about 30 minutes long with time for questions and discussion afterwards.

It has become clear in the past that we cannot really sustain a programme of one talk a week for a very long time because of lack of speakers having new material to report about. The plan for this term therefore is to have a block of weekly meetings now, and then take a break.

Is 3 pm on Thursdays a suitable time?
