The course covers a range of topics which are not covered by a single
text book. Thus you are recommended not to buy recommended books (!)
until you have attended lectures and have a clearer idea about what
you need to read more about.

1987. (Out of Print, but available for download as pdf file in zip archive).
This was a definitive reference work on the theory of concurrency
control in single server databases, and contains some coverage of
distributed databases.
