DEFCON Competition

At the IEEE Symposium on Computational Intelligence and Games 2010 in Copenhagen there will be a competition to determine the best DEFCON bot. More details will follow here once they are finalised. A rough format guideline is below.

Format

The aim of the CIG 2010 Defcon AI competition is to see which bot is the best Defcon player.

Each bot plays 30 matches against each other bot, in a series of one-on-one matches with bots playing in each of the possible starting territory configurations. The game will run on a limited-information mode (i.e., bots cannot see units hidden by the fog of war) and the victory timer will start no later than 4 hours into the game (additionally to the usual game ending conditions). For each match, the resulting score (standard rules: 2*kills - own casualties) is recorded for each player. In the end, the player with the highest cumulative score wins.

Each entry should use the DEFCON API and contain a one page description of the techniques used. It doesn't matter whether you use advanced AI methods such as Decision Trees, Neural Nets or Behaviour Trees or just a solid, hard-coded classical bot.

Prizes

The price for the first place is $500 subject to the following conditions:

  • At least one team-member of the winning entry has to be present at and registered with the conference.
  • If there are less than 5 submissions, the best entry has to beat the Introversion AI 70% of the time.
  • If there are 5 or more submissions, the best entry has to beat the Introversion AI 50% of the time.

Deadline

The deadline has not been fixed yet, but most likely it will be a couple of weeks before the actual conference.
