Mario AI Troubleshooting

I've been developing my bot in Eclipse under Windows. Generally the code will work under all other java-capable systems with some massaging too, but I can't really help you there (You can check the Mario AI Google Group though). Here are some Eclipse-related hints:

How to run Play.java

Art.java error

If you get this error:

java.lang.IllegalArgumentException: input == null!
at javax.imageio.ImageIO.read(Unknown Source)  
at ch.idsia.mario.engine.Art.getImage(Art.java:70)

do the following: In Art.java, add the bold text to the private static Image getImage() function: source = ImageIO.read(Art.class.getResourceAsStream(“resources/”+imageName));

Display my bot in Play.java

Enabling Red Lines

Change the following: In src/ch/idsia/mario/engine/LevelScene.java, put these lines below layer.renderExit0(g, tick, paused?0:alpha, mario.winTime==0);:

g.setColor(Color.RED);
      for (int i = 0; i < 999; i+=2)
      {
              g.drawLine(GlobalOptions.Pos[i][0] - xCam, GlobalOptions.Pos[i][1] - yCam,
                  GlobalOptions.Pos[i+1][0] - xCam, GlobalOptions.Pos[i+1][1] - yCam);
      }

Then, put public static int[][] Pos = new int[1000][2]; in ch/idsia/mario/engine/GlobalOptions.java Then, uncomment all occurences of GlobalOptions.Pos and the code around it in AStarSimulator.java. You also might have to define debugPos.

Increasing maximum level length

Find this line in AStarSimulator.java:

  levelScene.level = new Level(1500,15);

The 1500 is the maximum level length, set that to some arbitrary high value (might eat more memory though). Or better yet, rewrite it so it's dynamically increasing.
