Local Details

The workshop was held from 1st to 3rd September, 1997 at the South Kensington campus of Imperial College of Science, Technology and Medicine. South Kensington is an area in western central London long established as a cultural centre for the arts, sciences, music, learned societies and institutions. It is also home to several major national museums, including the Science Museum, the Natural History Museum, and the Victoria and Albert Museum.

The South Kensington campus of Imperial College is located within five minutes walk of Hyde Park and Kensington Gardens to the north. There are travel instructions for those new to the College. London has numerous cultural and tourist attractions and entertainments to interest participants of FPL and their accompanying partners. The weather in September is usually mild and sunny.

There are fast connections to various international airports including Heathrow, Gatwick, London City and Stansted. Participants of FPL97 were given special rates for staying at hotels and college accommodation close to the workshop venue. Wherever they stayed, they could get their food delivered by an on-line ordering service.

A map showing our location within South Kensington is available. There is another map showing the location of London within the UK.
