The challenge was to write a game which would be fun and stylish, but have it running on an Amstrad 3086 - a staggering 4MHz machine, capable of 16-colour graphics. The result was Smudgelet's Maze, which surprisingly, seemed to work at the right speed! Some of the later difficulties were concerned with slowing it down enough to make it run at the right speed on pentiums! A simple maze game: start on the left, and find your way through the maze to the right hand side. It is most fun with two players on the keyboard at once, with a race to get through the maze. Or the one-player ultimate smudge, where the maze becomes huge, and you can't go back on your trail... Check out Smudgelet's Maze 2000 below, for the upgraded and infinitely more advanced rewrite. Or download this one for a bit of history - just don't expect too much! |
