A secret project written for Tom's 18th Birthday in August 1998. It's actually a conversion from a really old early 80s 8-bit game which I had on my Atari, called 'Hovver Bovver'. It was a cool funky game, even though I wasn't much good at it. The idea is... Tom takes a day out from programming and decides to mow the lawns of his exotic mansion in Bognor. Unfortunately, his mower explodes and goes into orbit. So Tom borrows next door's mower, only to find that the guy who lives next door is Andy. Andy decides he's going to get his mower back, and chases Tom around the garden. So, you have to mow the lawn, being chased by a highly dangerous neighbour. And the dog too... The dog will mill around aimlessly like dogs do for a while, but being a highly sophisticated dog, the particular order you mow the blades of grass in will eventually become irritating to the dog, and he will start chasing you to. Run over him, and your mower will seize up for a while, after performing an emergency shutdown to save the dog. And if you happen to mow the flowerbeds, then the gardner, who by a strange space-time anomaly, is also Andy, and he will join the chase with a pair of rusty garden shears. Luckily, the gardener and neighbour, being different instances of the same person, are scared of the dog, and shouting 'KILL' (or pressing the '0' number pad key next to the arrow keys), will cause your faithful hound to chase them off. And that's about it! I've attempted to keep the mood of the game as fun and weird as the original, if anyone has ever played it before? The rather bizarre music, including a special guest appearance of the women's institute of raspberry blowers from Penge, is also worth hearing! Still some ugly bugs in this, which one day I'll get round to fixing... but have a look anyway. Will update this one as soon as I know how... |
