How to setup margins for your dissertation
Microsoft Word for Windows
If you are using Microsoft Word for Windows, then follow these instructions.
First select Page Setup from the File menu.
Under the Margins Tab
- In the Pages section, set the "Multiple pages" attribute to "Mirror Margins".
- In the Orientation section, select "Portrait".
- In the Preview section, Apply to "Whole Document".
- Set the margins as follows:
- Top = 2cm
- Bottom = 2cm
- Outside= 2cm
- Inside = 2.5cm
Under the Paper Tab
LaTeX
If you are using LaTeX, there are several options.
One suggestion is using the following documentclass options and making
use of the geometry package.
\documentclass[a4paper,11pt,twoside]{report}
\usepackage[left=2.5cm,right=2cm,top=2cm,bottom=2cm]{geometry}
Note that, you are not restricted to using the report class. This is just for
illustrative purposes.
