Expert Systems - 2An important thing to note about Expert systems, is that they do not have a predefined technique for determining solutions. The questions that it will ask to a user depend on previous answers from the user. For this reason, it is the knowledge database of the expert system that is vital in determining appropriate solutions. Expert system knowledge databases are so vast that only very simple expert systems can be run on home PCs.
The knowledge database consists of a series of 'IF-THEN' facts, which are interpreted by the inference engine along with the answers to queries. Forward chaining and backward chaining are used in the inference engine. |
