Title: The Innovation Game : IT@Shell
Abstract: Global energy demand is rising. Everyone will need to play their part in helping meet it in a sustainable way. At Shell we are finding ways to deliver more, cleaner energy and helping find ways to use it more efficiently. Human ingenuity and new technology hold the key to unlocking the energy consumers need to power their lives in the years ahead. At the same time they help us to limit our impact on the environment and find effective ways to engage with communities. Shell invites innovators to tackle the problems of energy production and help turn their best ideas into reality. With customers and partners, we apply innovative thinking across our businesses, now and for the future. Snehal will engage with the audience on how IT-enabled innovation is helping shape the future in Shell. Here is a glimpse…. “In a small, cinema-like room Shell’s virtual reality consultant taps his finger and a giant curved screen comes alive with 3D models of an underground world. Along the back wall, smart glass turns milky white to block out the light. The unique screen can hold up to 12 displays at a time, whether projected from inside the room or fed from computers around the world. The screen transports you effortlessly in to a virtual world. This could be exploring oil or gas fields hidden thousands of metres below the seabed, examining how liquid penetrates and flows through rock, or using an avatar to walk around a production facility or filling station that has yet to be built.
