Abstract: | Malware has been one of the major vector of abuse at Facebook. Bad actors trick users into installing malicious applications which they then use to hijack user browsers and Facebook login credentials. In this talk I will present the history of malware-based abuse on Facebook, starting off of traditional malware binaries and then focusing on the recent ecosystem of malicious browser extensions. The talk will also cover war stories of successful botnet takedowns and will introduce the monetisation incentives that fuel the abuse ecosystem. |
Speaker Details: | Ioannis Papagiannis Ioannis Papagiannis is an engineering manager at Facebook London supporting the Security Infrastructure team. Ioannis’ oversees a number of different projects that aim to make Facebook products less likely to suffer from security issues. He also has extensive experience working with Facebook’s anti-abuse systems. Before joining Facebook, he obtained his PhD on web security at Imperial College London. |
