Title: Leadership in software development
Abstract:

This talk will give you a flavour for what it is to lead people in industry. We will describe a few leadership roles you might be drawn towards and some skills that will help along the way. After graduating and starting off on your career, there will be a lot to learn. However, it won't take you long to be contributing to your chosen career to your full potential. Many graduates will be surprised at how quickly they start to take on leadership responsibilities. You may start off mentoring a junior engineer, perhaps leading a small team, growing from there and becoming a CTO. You might find yourself becoming the person everyone comes to for technical advice, perhaps becoming a technical architect or principal. You might even decide to go it alone, start a business, raise some capital and need to hire 50 engineers for your new venture. Whichever path you take, there will be plenty of options open to you, plenty of challenges both technical and non-technical.
