Title: The Challenges and Opportunities of Big Data & Advanced Analytics at Shell
Abstract: With over 46 petabytes of data on disk, Shell has both a big data problem and a significant opportunity. As an integrated energy company, business opportunities for advanced analytics exist throughout the value chain. The Advanced Analytics Centre of Excellence was established in 2013 to act as a focal point for the advanced analytics agenda across the group. This session will provide insight into the way in which the CoE is seeking to drive value from advanced analytics, and will also highlight some of the challenges encountered along the way.

"Dan Jeavons currently works for Shell in IT innovation. He began his working life as an Accenture consultant working in their Upstream practice before joining Shell In 2008. He started in Shell in Finance before moving to his natural home in IT in 2009. His IT roles to date have been in the CIO Office, and then in architecture before joining innovation in 2013. Dan is passionate about big data & analytics (a recurring theme throughout his career) but also has extensive experience in business process design and improvement, business transformation and large system (SAP) implementation.   He is married to Anne (a barrister) whom he me at university, and has recently become a father. He enjoys travelling, scuba diving and is a keen guitarist. He enjoys being able to apply expertise acquired within Shell in a charitable context. "
