== DoC Email Settings ==

Although all DoC mailboxes have been migrated to Exchange, we have left the final state of your old DoC mailbox as it was when
we migrated you; we have not gone through and deleted your old DoC mail files. No new email is delivered into your DoC mailbox
(because of the XXX@doc.ic.ac.uk rewriting rules we discussed at the start of the page), so
it's effectively a readonly final snapshot of your old DoC email.

If you would like to view these RELIC DoC mail folders then use the following settings, in any IMAP-capable email client, eg.
Thunderbird, Mac Mail, Outlook:

||<tablestyle="width: 100%" style="width: 33%"> '''Server''' || imap.doc.ic.ac.uk ||
|| '''Use SSL''' || Yes ||
|| '''IMAP port''' || 993 <<BR>> ~-This is the standard IMAP SSL port-~ ||
|| '''IMAP username''' || ''your username'' ||
|| '''IMAP password''' || ''leave blank'' <<BR>> ~-For security, it is better for your client to ask for your password when you initially connect.-~ ||
|| '''IMAP server directory''' || ~/IMAP ||
|| '''Folder subscription''' || Auto-subscribe <<BR>> ~-This varies between clients, but it is best to automatically enable subscription to all mailboxes.-~ ||

We recommend using SMTP authentication with TLS enabled. Within DoC, unauthenticated SMTP to port 25 is permitted. Outside DoC, port 587 can be used to connect with TLS and authentication if port 25 is blocked.
For simplicity, always use port 587.

||<tablestyle="width: 100%" style="width: 33%"> '''Server''' || smtp.doc.ic.ac.uk ||
|| '''Encryption''' || TLS <<BR>> ~-Note that this is not the same as SSL. It may also be shown as STARTTLS.-~ ||
|| '''SMTP authentication''' || Yes ||
|| '''SMTP port''' || 587 <<BR>> ~-This is the message submission port.-~ ||
|| '''SMTP username''' || ''your username'' ||
|| '''SMTP password''' || ''leave blank'' <<BR>> ~-as above-~ ||

If you no longer want or need your old relic "frozen DoC" email messages, feel free to delete the files yourself
(~/.email and the entire ~/IMAP directory, usually), or ask us to do it if you prefer..

Email: IMAP/SMTP Client Settings

DoC used to operate its own mail system separately to the rest of the College. Now, we have migrated all our users' mailboxes to the College Email system, based on Exchange, and have recently finished off the remainder of the mail migration. Now the mail servers that receive email destined for XXX@doc.ic.ac.uk are run by ICT, and use a frozen mailmap which essentially maps every XXX@doc email address onto the equivalent @imperial (or offsite) email address. So, for instance, new email sent to EXISTINGUSER@doc is sent onto EXISTINGUSER@imperial [note that new members of DoC since about June 2012 do not have any @doc email addresses, only @imperial ones], and similarly new email sent to LIST@doc is sent onto doc-LIST@imperial..

College Email Settings

If you have a College mailbox (i.e. unless you decided to forward your email offsite rather than suffer Microsoft software running your email server) then you should use these settings, in any IMAP-capable email client, eg. Thunderbird, Mac Mail, Outlook, create a separate email account:

IMAP Server

outlook.office365.com

Use SSL

Yes

IMAP port

993
This is the standard IMAP SSL port

IMAP username

your college username@ic.ac.uk

IMAP password

leave blank
For security, it is better for your client to ask for your password when you initially connect.

IMAP server directory

leave blank

Folder subscription

Auto-subscribe
This varies between clients, but it is best to automatically enable subscription to all mailboxes.

SMTP Server

smtp.office365.com

Note that this is not the same as SSL. It may also be shown as STARTTLS.

SMTP authentication

Yes

SMTP port

587

SMTP username

your college username@ic.ac.uk

SMTP password

leave blank
as above
